THE "VIKING" PROJECT

The Viking mission which consisted to two satellite , It was first launched on 20 Aug 1975 , to mark the start on the research for the planet Mars.

The Viking Mission focused more on reaching till mars then on researching its surface.

INFORMATION

The first United States effort to send soft landing spacecraft to
another planet began with two Viking launches to Mars in 1975.
These were the country’s most ambitious robotic space ventures up until that time.

The Viking spacecraft journeyed 815 million kilometres (505 million
miles) in approximately one year to land on Mars in the summer of 1976.
The entire mission (i.e., the two craft’s journeys) cost approximately $1
billion.
